Adobe Digital Editions, eBook reader

I’m not a big fan of ebooks. To be honest, they’re just glorified PDFs and look terrible onscreen.
So, I tend to avoid them.
However, I came across this jewel in Adobe’s lab site and it’s terrific.

Sony eBook Readers

3 Sony eBook Readers, side by side.
Is Your Ebook Reader More Than Just An Ebook Reader?
An ebook reader review will normally tell you the features and benefits of the device that you are looking at but there are always few things that will be left out. This can be because of space or just because they are seen as unimportant. There are features of the standard ebook reader that can be utilized in different ways.
Most ebook readers have the benefit of a large memory store which can be put to good use apart from storing ebooks. The main uses are for storing photos or graphics, audio files and text documents.
With some ebook readers you will need to connect to your computer although Sony devices and the Nook utilize SD cards for extra memory storage. Unfortunately the Kindle seems a little restricted but it is still possible to utilize it.
Storing music or audio files on an SD card can be extremely useful if you want to take music with you on holiday. While you are flying you can’t use your cell phone for music but you can use your ebook reader. If you have a wireless connection you will need to disable it first.
Most ebook readers can read .txt files. If you are unsure about these then take a look at the notepad in your windows menu. Notes made and saved in notepad will have a default file extension of .txt.
How can you use this?
How about ‘to do lists’. If you go out and you have a number of things to do you can make a list and store it in your ebook reader. Why use a pen and little scraps of paper. Most computers now have a card reader as standard so it’s a great way to use that old SD card that can’t be used for anything else.
If you are travelling then you could load your itinerary onto your ebook reader. Flight numbers and times, places to go and things to do can all be stored. Lists of friends and family to send postcards to and buy gifts for.
You also have the ability to store photos and pictures in various formats. Okay, they are in black and white but still useful if you want to remind yourself of your children or grandchildren. The Sony ebook reader also uses the duo pro stick that is used in their cameras.
Usually it is advised that if you are travelling overseas you carry a photocopy of your passport. Not anymore, now you can scan it and store it in your reader along with any other documents. You will of course need to make sure your ebook reader is secure but as they are not cheap to start with it is common sense.
With a little imagination you could find many other uses for your ebook reader. As they become ever more versatile and with extra features they will be able to provide even more benefits for our everyday lives.
Buying your first ebook reader will be a life changing
experience. Although many features are useful it is more important to know how they
can benefit you.
